What is The Terry Fox Run

Terry Fox Run is an annual non-competitive charity event which is held in numerous regions around the world to raise funds for cancer researches. This event started in 1981 in Canada, named after Terry Fox – the young athlete who was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) and forced to have his right leg amputated 15 centimeters (six inches) above the knee. To raise awareness and money for cancer researches and help other cancer patients, he decided to run across Canada in his journey which was known as the “Marathon of Hope”. However, after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres (3,339 miles), Terry was forced to stop running because cancer had appeared in his lungs. An entire nation was stunned and saddened. Terry passed away 9 months later at the age 22.

The heroic Canadian was gone, but his legacy was just beginning. After the success of his journey, this event has been held annually in numerous regions around the world. In Vietnam, the Terry FOX Run event has been held since 1996. Up to now, it has always been one of the largest charity events in Vietnam with the substantially growing number of participants.
