On September 28, 2024, the NTT Institute of International Education (NIIE) – Nguyen Tat Thanh University hosted an Orientation Day for new students in the Accounting program. The session was divided into two key parts, aimed at providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the academic curriculum and career development opportunities within the field of accounting.
Introduction to the Accounting Program at NIIE
Introducing the Accounting program, Dr. Nguyen Manh Hoang, Vice Director of NIIE, shared that the institute always strives to train students with in-depth expertise and the necessary skills to succeed in today’s globalized business environment. With the educational philosophy of “Real Learning—Real Success—Real Prestige—Real Future” and the motto “Global Learning—Global Success,” NIIE not only imparts knowledge but also focuses on enhancing language skills and soft skills, empowering students to work confidently in international companies.
The Accounting program at NIIE is designed with a structured curriculum, comprising three knowledge blocks: general knowledge, foundational courses, and specialized courses. This ensures that students build a strong foundation and gain comprehensive expertise. The main goal of the program is to help students meet four key standards upon graduation: Professional Competence, Global Citizenship, Life-long Learning, and an Entrepreneurial Mindset.
Graduates will not only master interdisciplinary knowledge, including natural sciences, social sciences, politics, and law, but they will also know how to apply accounting principles and regulations to handle accounting tasks, prepare tax reports, and evaluate business performance. In terms of skills, the program helps students develop communication abilities, effective teamwork, and proficiency in using technology in the accounting field. Additionally, students are equipped with entrepreneurial spirit and social responsibility, ready to adapt to changes in a globalized environment.
The program places special emphasis on improving English proficiency, with students required to achieve a B2 level (IELTS 5.5-6.0) upon graduation, and offers professional certifications, such as the 1C Accounting certificate. These qualifications will give NIIE students a significant advantage when seeking employment in international companies.
Insights from Guest Speaker Truong Van Quoc on Career Opportunities in Accounting
In the second part of the session, Mr. Truong Van Quoc, Head of Credit Appraisal at the Vietnam-Russia Joint Venture Bank, Ho Chi Minh City Branch, shared deep, practical insights into the growth potential and career opportunities in accounting. He emphasized that accounting is the backbone of every business, and as a result, the demand for professionals in this field is exceptionally high.
Mr. Quoc also addressed some common misconceptions about the accounting field. For example, many believe that accounting is a stable but low-paying job. However, he pointed out that the income potential for accountants can be quite attractive, especially for those with strong English skills and soft skills. One of the benefits of the accounting profession is the flexibility to work remotely and for multiple companies simultaneously. This means there is no limit to the earning potential in this field. Furthermore, he clarified that accounting work goes beyond dealing with ledgers; it also involves financial analysis, legal matters, and strategic consulting for businesses, making the profession dynamic and exciting.
Mr. Quoc highlighted that career opportunities in accounting will continue to expand as the economy grows and government policies encourage investment. With the increasing number of new businesses, each company typically requires one to three accountants. This illustrates that accounting is an up-and-coming field, not just for this year or next, but for many years.
The Orientation Day not only provided new students with a clear understanding of the academic program but also sparked confidence and passion for the accounting field. The students had the opportunity to hear real-life experiences, enabling them to map out a suitable development path for themselves.
