Held annually, the NIIE Student Scientific Research Contest serves as a valuable academic playground where knowledge, creativity, and hard work are celebrated. This year was no exception, with outstanding, highly specialized, and practical research topics creating an intense and exciting competition.
The judging panel for this year’s final round was honored to include faculty and leadership from NTTU – NIIE, including: Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Vice President of NTTU, Director of NIIE; Dr. Nguyen Manh Hoang, Deputy Director of NIIE; Dr. Tran Hoang Cam Tu, lecturer at NIIE; Dr. Nguyen Duc Hoai Anh, lecturer at NIIE; MSc. Tran Quoc Tich, lecturer; and MSc. Ta Huu Hien, lecturer at NIIE. All are reputable educators and researchers with years of experience and deep knowledge in various fields. Their fairness and high expertise ensured the contest was evaluated objectively and accurately.

The NIIE Student Scientific Research contest is held annually to provide a healthy, beneficial academic environment where students can freely express their passion for research, delve deeper into learned knowledge, and seek new understandings. It is also an opportunity for students to hone their skills, learn, and connect with like-minded individuals in a professional academic setting. Potential ideas will continue to be nurtured for participation in higher-level national and international competitions, ensuring that every effort is recognized and properly cultivated.

The 16 projects that advanced to this year’s final round were not only diverse in content but also reflected contemporary relevance and strong social responsibility. Notable topics included research on virtual games, Vietnamese sign language machine learning algorithms, startups, and eco-tourism. Each project was assessed as creative, highly applicable, and reflective of the undergraduate level of study.

With an innovative research topic, meticulous execution, an in-depth focus on virtual games – a highly popular subject – and fluent English presentations, the project “What makes a consumer loyal to a Virtual Game? An analysis of behavioural and attitudinal loyalty study” won the first prize. Sharing the top prize, the project “Factors affecting NIIE students’ intentions to start a business” presented unique aspects, new insights, and essential solutions on the promising subject of student entrepreneurship.

Notably, this year’s contest also featured a deeply humanistic research project, “Vietnamese sign language recognition.” The project aimed to use machine learning algorithms and speech recognition technology to translate Vietnamese sign language into text and speech to support communication for the hearing impaired. With its highly applicable, ethical, and community-focused nature, the Vietnamese sign language recognition project deservedly earned third prize in the competition.

The final results of the NIIE Student Scientific Research 2024 are as follows:
First prize:
- Factors affecting NIIE students’ intentions to start a business
- What makes a consumer loyal to a Virtual Game? An analysis of Behavioral and Attitudinal loyalty study
Second prize:
- Factors affecting domestic tourists’ intention to perform environmentally responsible behavior in Vung Tau City
- Determinants of environmental protection behavior of NIIE students
Third prize:
- Vietnamese sign language recognition
- Factors affecting the decision to work part-time of NIIE students
All other teams received consolation prizes.

The final round of NIIE Student Scientific Research 2024 concluded with many remarkable achievements. These results reflect not only the students’ hard work and research efforts but also their aspirations to reach further, their sense of responsibility toward the community, and society. Each topic, regardless of the award, stands as evidence of the potential of the younger generation, those ready to face challenges and contribute meaningful value to the future.
