From Data to Business Insights: NIIE Accounting Students Enter Graduation Thesis Season

Recently, Accounting students at NIIE Institute (Interlingual Institute of Education) – Nguyen Tat Thanh University successfully completed their Graduation Thesis Defense sessions for Semester 2 of the 2025–2026 academic year. This milestone marks the culmination of the academic journey for the Class of 2022 and provides students with an opportunity to present research projects closely connected to business operations, finance, and modern management trends.

This year’s thesis projects were evaluated by a team of lecturers and experts with extensive experience in Accounting and Finance. The first evaluation committee was chaired by Dr. Thai Hong Thuy Khanh, Head of the Accounting Program at NIIE, with Dr. Tran Thi Hong Duyen, NIIE Lecturer, serving as Reviewer, and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Huong Tra, MBA, Head of Academic Affairs at NIIE, serving as Committee Secretary.

The second committee was chaired by Dr. Nguyen Manh Hoang, Vice Director of NIIE, with Dr. Tran Thi Kim Phuong, NIIE Lecturer, serving as Reviewer, and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Phuong Anh, MBA, NIIE Lecturer, serving as Committee Secretary. Beyond evaluating the research outcomes, the committee members also provided valuable professional feedback on analytical thinking, data presentation, report structure, and the practical applicability of each topic.

This year’s thesis topics demonstrate the broad perspectives of Accounting students. 

While many people often associate Accounting solely with “books and numbers,” this year’s graduation theses revealed a much broader perspective. Students not only analyzed financial statements but also explored issues related to international accounting standards, corporate governance effectiveness, liquidity management, and financial operations in today’s economic environment.

One of the most notable projects examined the feasibility of concurrently applying VAS and IFRS in determining tax obligations at Masan Group. This topic carries both strong academic value and practical relevance, requiring students to possess solid knowledge of accounting, taxation, and international financial reporting standards. The committee highly appreciated the project’s practical applicability and its demonstration of students’ analytical capabilities.

Financial performance evaluation and business-oriented analysis remain among the most popular topics for Accounting students. 

In addition, many groups chose to analyze the financial performance of major corporations such as Vinamilk, FPT Corporation, MB Bank, and An Cuong Wood Working. Rather than simply presenting figures, students were required to explain fluctuations in revenue, costs, and profits, as well as identify factors influencing overall business performance.

The committees also devoted considerable time to providing recommendations and guidance on the essential skills Accounting and Finance students need in today’s working environment. 

Throughout the defense process, committee members also provided extensive feedback on research methodology, data presentation, data visualization, academic argumentation, and report standardization. These are all critical skills for Accounting and Finance students in today’s professional environment, where data and analytical capabilities play an increasingly important role.

Overall, this year’s Accounting Graduation Thesis Defense sessions were not merely academic activities but also an important transition that helped students become familiar with real-world professional thinking. Through research, analysis, and academic defense, NIIE students are gradually building the professional knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to adapt successfully to future business environments.
