Recently, the NTT Institute of International Education (NIIE) – Nguyen Tat Thanh University successfully hosted an inspiring workshop titled “The Lifecycle of Career Development.” The event featured speaker Tong Thi Nhi Ha, a seasoned expert in Human Resource Management with over 20 years of experience. She delivered insightful, practical perspectives to help Gen Z students better understand and shape their own career paths.

Career Journey: From Discovery to Success
In her presentation, Ms. Ha outlined the key stages that individuals typically go through in their careers. Beginning with the Discovery phase—where you explore your interests, passions, and try out different jobs—students were guided through to the Establishment phase, where they begin laying solid foundations and building a stable career path.

Importantly, she emphasized that each stage requires different strategies and mindsets. In the Mid-Career phase, for example, even with a solid foundation in place, continued growth depends on seizing new opportunities and advancing your skill set to meet fresh challenges.
Finally, in the Late Career stage, one begins to reflect on their journey, assess their achievements, and explore new directions—whether through mentoring the next generation or launching new projects. These phases aren’t just theoretical; they are real-life lessons to help students realize that a career is not only about climbing upwards but also about embracing challenges and lifelong learning.
Human Resources and Personal Career Development
A standout moment in the workshop was Ms. Ha’s explanation of how Human Resource Management connects closely with personal career development. She explained that each company has tailored HR strategies aligned with both organizational growth and employee development. Understanding this relationship helps businesses optimize performance—and helps you, as an employee, clearly understand your place within the organization.

Ms. Ha shared that early in your career, organizations typically focus on training and skill development. But as you gain more experience, companies aim to maximize your potential by entrusting you with more significant responsibilities—possibly even leadership roles—so you can grow holistically.

She also pointed out that understanding what you need at each stage of your career is the key to optimizing your performance and sustaining long-term growth. This not only propels your career forward but also keeps your work meaningful and motivating.
Conclusion
“The Lifecycle of Career Development” workshop was a wonderful opportunity for Gen Z students to gain valuable knowledge while also feeling empowered to take action. Remember, your career is a long journey—and each phase has its own excitement and lessons waiting to be discovered. Prepare well, unlock your full potential, and take bold steps toward success!
