Continuing the Orientation Day series, on September 25, 2025, the NTT Institute of International Education (NIIE) successfully held the freshman orientation for the Engineering cluster, which includes Automotive Engineering Technology and Information Technology.

The event was joined by: Dr. Duong Hoang Long – Head of Automotive Engineering Technology; Dr. Tran Son Hai – Head of Information Technology, Software Engineering specialization; Dr. Hoang Thinh Nhan – Head of Information Technology, Technology and Innovation specialization
Accompanying them were distinguished guests: Dr. Tran Thi Hong Duyen – Co-founder & CEO, Global American Academy (GAA); Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan – Head of Training Department, Toyota Phu My Hung Co., Ltd; Mr. Huynh Nguyen Khac Huy, MSc – Deputy Director, Hinova Company
Their insightful discussions helped students broaden their perspectives, connect theory with practice, and get ready for an exciting yet challenging university journey ahead.
General Orientation: Educational Philosophy and Career Opportunities

In the opening session, the program heads emphasized NIIE’s training philosophy of “learning by doing”, where students not only gain knowledge in class but also apply it in real-world business settings. The bilingual English–Vietnamese curriculum is designed to gradually enhance students’ English proficiency and prepare them for international integration.

Beyond strong theoretical foundations, NIIE also focuses on developing soft skills such as critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and an entrepreneurial mindset. These are essential for thriving in a fast-changing global environment driven by technological innovation. The speakers also reaffirmed that career prospects for graduates are highly diverse — spanning manufacturing, technology, and service enterprises, as well as startups and research.
The biggest strength of NIIE’s programs lies in their close connection with industry partners, enabling students to not just “learn” but also “experience,” gaining real-world exposure and career readiness early on.

Automotive Engineering Technology: A Green Future with Electric Vehicles and Digital Innovation

From a business perspective, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Head of Training at Toyota Phu My Hung, provided students with an in-depth overview of Vietnam’s automotive industry. He shared that in 2024, the domestic market recorded nearly half a million vehicles sold, with a sharp rise in electric and hybrid vehicles. The shift toward clean energy, electronics, automation, and digital technologies—including AI, IoT, and autonomous systems—is creating promising career opportunities.
He emphasized that today’s industry demands engineers who not only excel in mechanics but also understand software, sensors, and control systems — with adaptability and a strong capacity for lifelong learning.

Meanwhile, Dr. Tran Thi Hong Duyen, CEO of GAA, provided insightful advice on how to study effectively at university. She encouraged students to develop self-learning, time management, critical thinking, and academic English communication skills. She also underscored the importance of a lifelong learning mindset and entrepreneurial spirit, reminding students that the automotive industry is undergoing rapid transformation and they must be ready to adapt to any change.

Information Technology: Opportunities in the Age of AI and Digital Transformation

For the Information Technology major, students had the opportunity to hear practical insights from Mr. Huynh Nguyen Khac Huy, MSc, Deputy Director of Hinova Company. He highlighted that between 2023 and 2026, Vietnam is projected to face a shortage of 150,000–200,000 IT engineers annually. Meanwhile, the digital economy already contributes 16.5% of Vietnam’s GDP and is expected to grow by over 20% per year.

Mr. Huy identified several key technology trends students should focus on — including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, IoT, Big Data, and Cybersecurity. These are high-demand fields offering opportunities for global career advancement.
Beyond technical knowledge, he emphasised that students should develop their foreign language skills, self-learning abilities, and engage in active participation in real-world projects or hackathons to demonstrate their capabilities. “Career opportunities in IT are not limited to Vietnam — they extend globally, as long as you have the confidence and preparation to seize them,” he affirmed.
