On March 7 and 14, the NTT Institute of International Education (NIIE) successfully hosted the “Quantitative Analysis with SPSS” workshop. This workshop allowed final-year economics students to explore a powerful data analysis tool and optimise their thesis research. It also equipped students with advanced data analysis skills, an essential advantage in today’s professional environment.

In-depth, Practical, and Highly Applicable
Under the guidance of Ms Tran Hoang Cam Tu, MBA, and Mr Vu Nhat Phuong, MBA, two experienced lecturers at NIIE, the workshop followed a well-structured curriculum combining theory and hands-on practice. This approach ensured that students grasped research methodologies and learned how to apply data effectively in real-world scenarios. The program was divided into four key modules, conducted over two days and lasting 12 hours, providing ample time for students to absorb and apply their knowledge effectively.

Students built a solid foundation in research methodology and scientific model design on the first day. Key topics included defining research questions, selecting appropriate methods, and developing a structured approach. Additionally, students were introduced to modern research-support tools such as AI-powered data analysis and learned about ethical research practices in academia.
After mastering the theoretical concepts, students moved on to data processing and analysis, covering tasks such as data cleaning, information encoding, descriptive statistics, and data visualisation through advanced charting techniques. Advanced techniques were also introduced to help students optimise their analytical process and present data precisely and scientifically.

On the second day, students were formally introduced to SPSS—an essential tool for quantitative data analysis. They received detailed instructions on the software’s interface, data management techniques, and basic statistical analyses, such as reliability testing and data processing.
In the advanced section, students explored complex statistical tests, including correlation analysis, regression analysis, and exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Mastering these methods strengthens thesis quality and provides a crucial skill set for future careers, particularly in market research, finance, and data management.

“Hands-On” Approach – Direct Practice with Real Data
What set this workshop apart was its practical, hands-on approach. Rather than just learning theory, students worked directly with their own datasets, receiving step-by-step guidance from lecturers. This method enabled them to identify and correct errors in real-time, improving their ability to handle data accurately and scientifically.

With the knowledge and skills gained from the SPSS workshop, students have not only enhanced their thesis research but also built a strong foundation for entering the professional world—where data and analytics play a critical role in business decision-making, giving them a competitive edge in their future careers.
