In the coming years, students in Hospitality Management will be valuable assets. Let’s explore the reasons through this article.

Heavy Impact of Covid-19 on the Hospitality Management Industry.

According to the statistics from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, in 2020, tourism and hotel businesses had to reduce their workforce by 70 – 80%. In 2021, the number of full-time employees accounted for only 25% compared to 2020, with around 30% resigning or terminating contracts, 35% temporarily on leave, and 10% working on standby. The most affected were employees engaged in services at accommodation establishments, or in other words, personnel in the Hospitality Management industry.

During the 2020 - 2021 period, a significant number of employees at all skill levels had to change careers, resulting in a severe shortage in the tourism and hotel industry.
During the 2020 – 2021 period, a significant number of employees at all skill levels had to change careers, resulting in a severe shortage in the tourism and hotel industry.

Notably, the tourism workforce who lost jobs or changed careers, with 5-10 years of experience, accounted for 43.66%; those with over 10 years of experience accounted for 23.56%; those with college/university degrees made up 51.31%; and postgraduates switched professions by 90%.

Hence, during the 2020 – 2021 period, a considerable number of employees across all skill levels had to change careers, resulting in a significant shortage in the tourism and hotel industry after the pandemic, especially during peak travel seasons such as holidays and festivals, when the market demand for travel increased.

Hospitality Management 2025 – 2030: Dawn Rising, a Golden Opportunity for High-Quality Personnel.

Despite the difficulties during the pandemic, Hospitality Management is assessed as a prospective field in the upcoming years. According to Vietnam’s Tourism Growth Forecast, by 2025, the country will need 950,000 – 1,050,000 hotel rooms, and by 2030, it will require 1,300,000 – 1,450,000 rooms. Therefore, in 2025, the demand for labor in the tourism accommodation sector will be over 800,000, and by 2030, it will surpass one million. From 2022 to 2030, an average of over 60,000 workers needs to be added annually.
