Many Graduates Still Require Additional Training

At an educational seminar in 2023, a delegate noted the significant gap between university training and the needs of businesses. The delegate’s organization had received 2,000 outstanding students for their training program but only hired 100 of them, and only 2% could meet over 90% of the assigned tasks.

Recent data in the Information Technology (IT) sector also shows that among the 50,000 IT graduates each year, only 30% can work immediately, while 70% require at least three months of additional training.

Discussing this issue, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Vice President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University and Director of NTT International Education Institute (NIIE), stated: “Surveys from employers indicate that practical experience is the most crucial factor, accounting for nearly 90%. Businesses are particularly concerned about students’ readiness for the job market and their ability to ‘hit the ground running’ after graduation. The solution that many universities apply is practice-oriented training.”

Practice-Oriented Training Model

Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh explained that practice-oriented training is an approach in education that tightly integrates theory and application, allowing students to gain practical exposure early, with a core focus on the ability to apply knowledge.

There are various ways to implement practice-oriented training. Some institutions partner with businesses for training, while others reverse the internship process.

At NIIE, practical training is comprehensively integrated into every element: faculty, teaching methods, academic and extracurricular activities. This model is built on 15 years of experience collaborating with universities worldwide.

Changing Practical Activities to Engage Students Early

Instead of students only engaging with businesses at the end of their program, NIIE offers practical experience starting from the first year. New students begin with factory and company field trips to get acquainted. In the second year, they practice and participate in business projects. Finally, in the third year, students intern at companies as trainee employees.

From the business perspective, Mr. Tony Huynh Thanh Phong, Commercial Director at Pearson Education South Asia, shared: “After interacting with NIIE students, I highly appreciate their advanced thinking and practical application skills. They excel in both specialized knowledge and essential skills needed by businesses, requiring no additional training. Their eagerness to learn, responsibility, and English proficiency also enable them to develop quickly and stand out.”

NIIE is currently accepting applications for the Bachelor’s program in seven promising fields through academic transcript review. With a GPA of 6.0 or higher, candidates have the opportunity to gain early admission and receive a scholarship worth 15,000,000 VND.
