On the afternoon of September 24th, the NTT Institute of International Education (NIIE) continued its series of Orientation Day events, this time welcoming new students from the Automotive Engineering program. This event not only provided essential information but also ignited the passion for learning and development among these future engineers.
This Orientation Day proudly welcomed two guest speakers: Dr. Duong Hoang Long, Head of Automotive Engineering at NIIE, and MSc. Nguyen Thanh Tan, Director of Thien Minh Auto.
At the start of the event, students were introduced to the vision, mission, and educational philosophy of NIIE, with the motto “Global Learning – Global Success.” They were also given an in-depth overview of the 4-year curriculum, from theoretical courses to advanced practical training. Familiarizing themselves with the curriculum and the expected outcomes gave students a comprehensive view of the skills and competencies they need to achieve upon graduation, ensuring that every student is fully prepared for their future careers.
Dr. Duong Hoang Long, Head of Automotive Engineering at NIIE, emphasized that NIIE students will not only be equipped with specialized knowledge but also with English language skills, progressing from basic levels to achieving a B2 standard (IELTS 5.5-6.0). This is a significant advantage, helping students feel more confident in an international working environment.
Mastering English in Engineering: Now Just “A Minor Issue”
One common concern for engineering students is their English proficiency. Understanding this, Dr. Duong Hoang Long devoted time to sharing English learning methods at NIIE, sparking students’ enthusiasm for learning a foreign language. According to Dr. Long, English is not just a learning tool; it’s a key to unlocking better job opportunities, especially as the automotive industry becomes more globalized.
Learning with Hands-On Experience: Practical Training on Modern Cars and Advanced Facilities
A standout feature of NIIE’s Automotive Engineering program is its state-of-the-art facilities, including a 2000m² workshop. Students have the opportunity to work directly with the latest car models, from gasoline-powered cars to advanced electric vehicles. This is an ideal environment for students to apply theory to practice, enhance their skills, and prepare for exams and the workplace.
In addition to lessons in the workshop, students are encouraged to participate in competitions and car design clubs. These platforms allow students to unleash their creativity, realize their passions, and learn from like-minded peers. Furthermore, opportunities for international collaboration, such as short-term internships in Japan, China, South Korea, and various European countries, are a unique part of the program, helping NIIE students broaden their perspectives and enhance their expertise.
Practical Insights from Automotive Industry Experts
The Orientation Day became even more engaging with guest speaker MSc. Nguyen Thanh Tan, Director of Thien Minh Auto. He shared practical insights with students about this promising industry, highlighting future career opportunities and, most importantly, the skills students need to develop if they want to excel in the field.
According to Mr. Tan, the automotive industry is not only full of potential but also offers diverse career paths. Students can pursue roles such as design engineers, vehicle manufacturers, or work in research and development (R&D) departments at major automotive companies. However, to succeed, students must actively hone their skills and knowledge, especially in new technologies and foreign languages.
The highlight of the program was a challenge posed by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tan: to design a solution for automobiles. If NIIE students can successfully complete the project, Thien Minh Auto will sponsor the entire cost of implementing the model. This is a rare opportunity, not only giving students real-world experience but also allowing them to showcase their creativity and technical skills.
The Orientation Day helped new students in the Automotive Engineering program at NIIE grasp their learning and development roadmap. With the outstanding advantages of a modern learning environment, an experienced teaching staff, and support from corporate partners, students can be confident that they are on the right path and ready to face any challenges in the future.
So, are NIIE’s new students ready to begin their journey to becoming outstanding automotive engineers? Always remember, that hard work and continuous effort will help you conquer any goal. Keep pushing forward!
