The 4.0 technological revolution, alongside the explosion of Blockchain and AI, has brought numerous benefits to our lives. However, it has also brought along hidden threats concerning cybersecurity. Among these, the most prevalent is Ransomware Extortion attacks (using malicious code to steal information). To enhance IT students’ understanding of cybersecurity, strengthen digital security, and provide access to the latest knowledge about Blockchain and AI on Cloud, the NTT Institute of International Education (NIIE) invited Dr. Linh Pham, a lecturer from the University of Western Sydney, Australia.
The seminar was attended by Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Vice President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, the Director of NIIE; Dr. Nguyen Manh Hoang, Vice Director of NIIE; and special guest Dr. Linh Pham, a faculty member at the University of Western Sydney, Australia. Dr. Linh Pham holds numerous prestigious certifications worldwide in research activities, teaching in science and technology, and security, such as the Certified Linux Professional Institute (LPIC-1 & LPIC-2), Certified CIWW Security Analyst, Certified CIW Security Instructor, and has also received awards for Excellence in Teaching from Charles Sturt University (CSU) – Study Centre Sydney.
During the seminar, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh thanked Dr. Linh Pham for taking the time in his short business trip to engage and share valuable information with NIIE students. While workshops, seminars, and expert meetings are regularly organized in each course to provide students with practical knowledge in their field, the workshop “Ransomware Extortion Blockchain & AI on Cloud” was exceptional. This was due to the guest speaker, a highly qualified expert in security, Blockchain, and AI. Aside from research and teaching, Dr. Linh Pham has participated in significant global technology projects. Therefore, the insights shared during this seminar will be precious for students. Furthermore, Dr. Linh Pham’s extensive experience in studying and working in Australia provides an excellent opportunity for NIIE IT students to gain insight into working abroad, study experiences, and career guidance for the future.
“Being a Coder/Programmer is not a prerequisite for understanding network security,” shared Dr. Linh Pham at the beginning of the seminar. He emphasized that network security is an essential need that every individual should be concerned about. Dr. Linh Pham provided students with in-depth perspectives on cyberattacks, specifically Ransomware, explaining the purposes and severe consequences of such attacks. He covered the current status of Ransomware in Vietnam and Australia, legal aspects, education on cybercrimes, and most importantly, how to identify and protect oneself against Ransomware, something anyone, even without coding or programming knowledge, can achieve. The guest speaker also delved into intriguing aspects of this issue, such as Cybercrime being the world’s third-largest economy or the fact that Cybercrime units operate not as individuals but more like organized enterprises.
Alongside security knowledge, Dr. Linh Pham also expanded students’ understanding of Blockchain. Explaining the differences between Blockchain and crypto, the benefits of Blockchain, and the seemingly limitless applications of Blockchain in centralized data encryption exploited by governments, healthcare, and foreign military. As a promising field with high-income potential and significant job opportunities, the area of Blockchain garners much interest from students. Understanding this, Dr. Linh Pham shared avenues for learning and earning through Blockchain and programming languages that students should acquaint themselves with to stay abreast of global trends and confidently apply to technology corporations worldwide and engage in potential Blockchain projects. Similarly, the speaker provided valuable insights on Deep Learning, AI on the Cloud, the applications of AI in daily life and industrial sectors, and the benefits and challenges as AI becomes more prevalent. He remembered to share experiences and programming languages for NIIE IT students focused on an AI career path.
With over 30 years of living and working in Australia, the guest speaker dedicated valuable time to sharing authentic insights about the industry, providing students with close and practical information. Dr. Linh Pham not only addressed professional aspects but also earnestly guided students on how to set goals, develop annual plans, and take steps to transform dreams into reality. His sincere and open support will undoubtedly serve as a profound inspiration for NIIE IT students to study passionately and pursue this high-potential path.
